Thunderbolt 3 Devices

Before purchasing a Thunderbolt 3 Device, ensure your system is compatible.

The VT5000 does not require drivers, however, after connecting the docking station to your laptop's Thunderbolt™ 3 port, you may be required to allow the docking station to connect in the Thunderbolt™ 3 software found in your system tray.

For full functionality, please ensure you have the latest Thunderbolt™ 3 software installed and up-to-date.

Microsoft has made changes to their Windows 10 settings. This may cause a decrease in performance when using a Thunderbolt™ 3 SSD Enclosure. If you set your display to 4K @ 60Hz and connect a display to the DisplayPort output on the laptop dock, your display may flicker. This issue only affects certain monitors and is a result of an interoperability issue between the hardware used in the display and the dock. This issue is not specific to VisionTek docks. To resolve this issue, you may try any of the following: Connect a USB-C to DisplayPort cable from the USB-C Thunderbolt 3 port on the dock to the DisplayPort input on the display. (Data transfer speeds are dependent on the other features that you are using in your setup.) USB 3.1 Gen 2 support. 4K 60Hz video on one or two separate displays. 5K 60Hz video on a single display. A 10 GbE network connection between two Thunderbolt 3 compatible computers. Up to six devices daisy-chained from a single Thunderbolt 3 port. Alternate modes, such as DisplayPort Alternate Mode (DP alt mode). Bi-directional power delivery up to 100W (not all Thunderbolt 3 devices support power delivery). USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 Thunderbolt 3 uses the USB-C connector, but not all host connections, cables and devices with a USB-C connector support Thunderbolt 3. This means that a USB-C device is compatible with a Thunderbolt 3 host connection, but a Thunderbolt 3 device is not compatible with a USB-C host connection. Therefore, it is important to know whether you have a USB-C or a Thunderbolt 3 host, cable or device. When first connecting a Thunderbolt 3 device, the device must first be authenticated through Intel's Thunderbolt 3 software. To do so you can use the below instructions as a guide: After connecting a Thunderbolt 3 device the first thing that you should see (assuming that the system NVM, BIOS, drivers, etc are up to date and compatible) is an automatic notification above the system tray notifying you that a new device has been attached. You will want to click OK: After clicking OK, you may get a Windows User Account Control (UAC) popup asking if you "want to allow this app to make changes to your PC?". Click Yes: After clicking yes you should see a windows like this appear which is where you will approve the Thunderbolt 3 device that was just attached: Click on the drop down menu where it says "Do Not Connect" and select "Always Connect". Then click OK: To view and manage the approved devices you can find the program sitting in the system tray. You may need to click the caret (up arrow icon) to show all of the running programs then right click on the Thunderbolt icon it and select Manage Approved Devices: You may again get a Windows UAC prompt, click yes.
